The Australian Ballet begins its long association with the Sydney Opera House with the world premiere of The Sleeping Beauty, directed by Helpmann, produced by van Praagh and designed by Kenneth Rowell. Garth Welch, who had danced the leading male role of every classical work staged by the company, dances his farewell performances as the Prince in this season.
