December 1972 – January 1973
Robert Helpmann and Rudolf Nureyev make Nureyev’s production of Don Quixote into a film starring The Australian Ballet. The shoot takes place over a steamy Melbourne summer in an Essendon Airport hangar; the perfectionist Nureyev often keeps the dancers till midnight until the perfect shot is in the can.
